AWARDS statistics
Since 1971, women have been recognized for 23% of the medals awarded by ASLA. Of the six medal categories, women received the highest percentage (45%) of recognition for the Bradford Williams Medal, which recognizes superior writing in Landscape Architecture Magazine (LAM) and excellence in writing about landscape architecture in other mainstream periodicals. In all other categories, women average around 16% of total recipients. In the last three years, that average has grown to 32% of total award recipients.
Since 1981, women-led firms have been recognized for 9.7% of the total (955) project awards. The ratios across project type and award type have remained constant as well as the amount of projects awarded every five years. From 1981-1985, 9% of the awards were won by women-led firms, and the past three years (2015-2018) that percentage has not changed.
